Wellington Monument Race 2024

Taunton Athletic Club are once again pleased to be hosting the Wellington Monument Race, after a break last year. The race is just over 10k, at 6.27 miles (10090 metres).

NEW for this year - chip timing!

Starting at 10:00 hrs from the Catherine Wheel pub in Hemyock village square, the route then climbs to and circles the Wellington Monument, returning along the same road to finish at the local village primary school. One mile of firm stone track, a steep ascent and descent of approximately ½ mile form part of this undulating, hilly, scenic and rural course. Unfortunately the hilly route makes this race unsuitable for wheelchairs.

The Wellington Monument (location) forms the half way point of the race, before returning to the finish at Hemyock Primary School where a finisher award, mulled wine and mince pie will be waiting for all runners.

A good range of refreshments will be available both before and after the race. Changing areas and toilets are available but sorry there are no shower facilities.

PRIZES: (only one award per runner, unless local):

1st, 2nd and 3rd placed Male finishers; 1st 2nd and 3rd Female finishers overall,

and Category prize to:

1st place in each age class (excl. winners of 1, 2, 3 positions overall)

MEN: Junior Male U20, Senior, V40, V45, V50, V55, V60, V65, V70; and

LADIES: Junior Female U20, Senior, V35, V40, V45, V50, V55, V60, V65.

1st Local (Hemyock): Male and Female.

ENTRY FEES: Attached (with EA Licence) £18.00, Unattached £20.00

Entries on Race day (UNLESS FULL) up to 09:45 hrs at £20.00 Attached or £22.00 Unattached

Entries can be made here via FullonSport, (unless full) until 11:00 hrs on Tuesday 10th December 2024.

Alternatively, entries can be made by post if you prefer, to be received by the organiser by 6th December. The postal entry form will be available on the Taunton Athletic Club website at http://tauntonac.org in November.

Race numbers are to be collected at the entry desk at Hemyock Primary HQ between 08.30 and 09:45 hrs on the morning of the race.

IMPORTANT NOTICES:

No refunds will be provided. If the race is cancelled, then ‘Plan B’ date is provisionally Sunday 26th January 2025.

Strictly no earphones allowed in accordance with EA rules.

The race limit is 300.

Minimum race age: 16

The cut off time for finishers is 1½ hours, from then on marshals will be stood down

DIRECTIONS

Hemyock is found by leaving the M5 at junction 26, follow the Wellington turning to the roundabout, turn left along the A38 for 1½ miles.

Turn left into Monument Road, follow the road to the very top of the hill to a crossroads, go straight across and follow signs for Hemyock.

Carry on through the village via Station Road until you enter the village square, passing and keeping the Catherine Wheel Inn on your extreme left follow the road around to the right, passing a garage and then turning left opposite a cemetery on your right hand side into Parklands.

The race headquarters are located at Hemyock CP School easily found at: Parklands, Hemyock, Cullompton, Devon EX15 3RY

There is limited parking, so please car share if possible and be considerate when parking throughout the village
