The club have been promoting a 5 mile race since 1946 and This year will be celebrated its 70th anniversary. Over this time, the course has changed several times and currently enjoys a single lap course comprising of Stamshaw Promenade & 1000 Lakeside.
The race has become one of the top 5 mile races in Europe, attracting many leading runner from the UK and overseas. The outright race records are held by Rob Denmark in 22.43 and Nnenna Lynch (USA) in 25.35. The current course records are held by Peter Emase (Kenya) in 22.57 and Agnes Chebet (Kenya) in 26.43
The race will have chip timing and starts and finishes on the athletic track at the Mountbatten Centre, Portsmouth. The Mountbatten Centre has excellent facilities for changing and enjoying pre or post race refreshments
The race is suitable for all abilities and first-timers are most welcome.
There is an extensive prize list of over £3500 in value. Prizes to the top 6 Male & Female plus race record and course record bonuses. Veteran prizes in 5 year age group from ages 40 - 80.
A special commemorative medal to celebrate the 70th anniversary to all finishers.
In addition to the 5 mile there will be a 1 mile road race for runners of 9 years and above. This will be run on a certified course and have chip timing. A great opportunity for a PB over this historic distance.
